What a lovely way to celebrate - wonderful weather, fantastic cricket and just delightful food. Both Dave, Lyn and myself couldn’t have asked for much more.

My heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to all who helped in making this day such a memorable one. Lyn and her gang who provide an excellent lunch, to Judy and my daughters who provided award winning cakes for tea. To the umpires, scorers, supporters, sponsors, club members, thank you.

To be honest it didn’t see much of the cricket, there was too much food and drink and socialising to indulge in! I was informed that the quality of the cricket was in need high and entertaining. And my team were unlucky not to win… or did they allow the opposition to win!! Doesn’t really matter! Thank you the Chairman 12… it has an honour!

An extra bonus, we made some much needed money for the club!

With both Tim Gush our Chairman and Dave and Lyn Lewis our Presidents stepping down from their roles at the end of the 2026 season, Tim has shared some words with us.

Twenty years seems a sensible point at which to step down as Chairman of MLCC. Many of the members have known nothing else… Time for a change!,Plus, it must be about time for a younger, enthusiastic person with a fresh approach to pick up the reins and take the club into its next exciting chapter.

When reflecting on my time as Chairman, I have to ask where has the time gone? There have, of course, been many ups and downs throughout that term. It has been brilliant to see the club winning leagues and cups – and enjoying that magnificent ‘triple’ year! Watching the juniors come through the ranks over many years and become the mainstay of the 1st team has made me so proud.

Being at the start of the wonderful inclusive Minster Lions, still a credit to themselves and the club. Just fantastic!

Even in adversity, the club comes together. Many years ago, the club’s finances were in dire straits — some may say almost non-existent! Worrying times.
Again, I was immensely proud of how the club fought to restore its financial stability — and remains financially stable today!

The continuing improvement in standards, both on and off the pitch, has been impressive and is something we can all take pride in… I think someone called it “The Minster Way”. Very apt, and long may it continue.

Of course, all these happy memories are mainly due to all those brilliant, hardworking volunteers who have given up their spare time to sit on various committees over the past twenty years. Far too many people to mention —

but thank you all for your time and energy. It has been a privilege to be part of the team.


Can I finish by thanking all the committees, players, members, supporters, sponsors and everyone involved in the club over all those years for their support and dedication to OUR club. It’s been an absolute privilege.

Dave and Lyn - A Lasting Contribution

One of my first and most memorable duties as Chairman was to invite Dave and Lyn Lewis to be the club’s presidents. After a short time of consideration, they happily agreed — a decision the club has never regretted, and I hope Dave and Lyn have not either.

Dave, well supported by Lyn and the family, has been part of the club’s DNA for far more years than perhaps we should be concerned with. Suffice to say that Dave’s connection with MLCC as batsman, wicketkeeper, captain, committee member, chairman and president speaks for itself. And in the days when cricket teas were as important as scoring runs or taking wickets, there was Lyn!


Both Dave’s and Lyn’s support of this club has been immense, no more so than when MLCC’s Minster Lions, our all-inclusive cricket team, was formed. Their support and sponsorship of the Lions have proved not only to be extremely generous but also a credit to themselves and the club. The Lions were awarded the Lord’s Taverners Sporting Chance Award ‘Sports Club of the Year’.

It was an achievement of which the whole club was, and still is, incredibly proud.

The club holds the Lewises in the highest esteem; thank you doesn’t seem enough on this occasion. I do know that whoever follows will have mighty big shoes to fill.

On behalf of the club, as one, would like to give thanks and show its appreciation to Dave and Lyn for their outstanding contribution to our club. Never to be forgotten.

To celebrate the end of this era our Presidents Day on 2nd August wil feature a slightly different format to previous years with a Presidents X1 facing off against a Chairmans XI

President’s Day is one of the highlights of the Minster Lovell calendar. Traditionally, it sees the Club Captain’s XI take on the President’s XI.

This year, with both Chairman Tim Gush and President Dave Lewis in their final year in office, we’ve decided to do something a little different. Tim will lead the Chairman’s XII against Dave’s President’s XI in what promises to be a fantastic occasion.

Rather than selecting a traditional Minster XI, Tim has chosen a side made up of people who have played an important part in his time as Chairman. His selection includes family, close friends, club sponsors and club members who have supported both him and Minster Lovell Cricket Club over the years.

THE CHAIRMAN’S XII

When I came to selecting my side for this match, I wondered what the criteria should be.

The best team possible? A group of old cricketing mates? Or an opportunity to say thank you to the people who have made my life as Chairman that little bit easier?

Hopefully, I have combined all three into one glorious team that can take on the best the President’s XI can muster.

There is family in Aaron and Freddie.

There are friends representing the club’s sponsors in Alfie, Kevin and Harry.

There are MLCC friends I wanted to thank for all their hard work and dedication to the club in Olly, Tony, Jake and Elliott.

Then there are family friends in Will and Chris.

Lastly, there is the one person I owe a huge thank you to, and I was delighted when he accepted the captaincy: Nathan.

I know it makes 12, but who could I leave out?

There are, of course, many, many people to whom I owe a big thank you. But I hope you can now understand my selection, which I have tried to make representative of one’s life, if that’s not too deep!

Family, friends, cricketing mates… and the ideal lifestyle.
